Are YOU Missing Out?

DoD Agency

The Department of Defense issued their SBIR 21.3 Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) topics with a final due date of October 21, 2021. THIS IS THE TIME TO CONSIDER!  After September 20, you will no longer be able to work with topic managers to determine fit.

What is available? There are a range of opportunities across Army, Navy, Defense Logistics and more. BUT NO AIR FORCE this round!

What Technologies Fit? Download the BAA to see modernization priorities listed on page 5. From Communications to “general warfighting requirements,” there are several funding priorities available for small business consideration?

Doing Business with the DoD and Federal Government is hard? No doubt.  But did you know there is a free Wisconsin resource to help you navigate this funding?  Did you know the WEDC provides grants to help with proposal preparation?

Okay, I have several items ready to sell! Wait—the SBIR program funds exploration and innovation. DoD SBIRs fund studies directed towards: 1) greater knowledge in subject area; 2) applying new knowledge to meet needs; and 3) application of knowledge towards production of useful materials, devices, systems and methods including improvement of prototypes. You can use these opportunities to enrich your IP, explore partnered approaches, envision integrated systems and more.

How much money?  BAA opportunities start around $111,500 for a 6-month Phase 1. But don’t ignore additional funding via DoD options, Technical and Business Assistance (TABA), the Wisconsin CTC micro-grants, and SBIR Advance with an SBIR award.

Where to Start?

  1. Review the current pre-release topics on the DSIP website.
  2. Reach out to the Wisconsin CTC to get started on registrations
  3. Plan for September 21 full release and October 21 due date.
